BF PARANAQUE POST-INUMAN FOOD TRIP

Did the late-great Colonel Sanders really say, "I'm too drunk to taste this chicken"? I doubt it, 'cause then why am I craving for a freakin' sausage burger and a Speculoos cookie butter shake laced with glorious shawarma garlic sauce??! Making sense, I am not. Drunk, I am. Let's eat in BF!

Jeany’s Food House (Goto Bang)

My first encounter with Goto Bang is straight out of an HG Lewis film – hazy-drunk at 2 AM, a friend brought us to his customary hangover cure. Named Jeany’s Food House, inebriates have since stamped it with its moniker ‘Goto Bang,’ (for Goto Batangas) as if it’s a code to a fraternal society. I fumbled on a decrepit stool and faced a wall of white bathroom tiles, with the vendor chopping up beef parts under a lone incandescent bulb. That’s how I remember it anyway.

Juice Tip-off: Now looking more like your neighborhood carinderia, Jeany’s Food House’s Goto Batangas (PHP 40 small, PHP 50 big) – savory broth of beef innards boiled in spices – is best served with hot rice. It will wake you just enough to drive yourself home in one piece.

Atoy’s Porkchop

Atoy’s pork chop meal is the kind of comfort food that’s satisfyingly good when your taste buds are anesthetized with copious amounts of alcohol. Reminiscent of your college street side budget meals, the pork chop with fried rice and egg (PHP 70) is heavy on (good ‘ol MSG) flavor and is easy on the pocket.

Juice Tip-off: It’s not like you’re living off a meager allowance anymore; it’s time to graduate from the dalawang-subong-kanin-isang-subong-ulam habit. Order their Tapa meal (PHP 70) or Pork Sisig meal (PHP 80) with your pork chop to glut the appetite.

Mandarin Palace Seafood and Shabu-Shabu Restaurant

Dim sum. DIM SUM. It’s the sound of grumbling tummies yearning for a substantial midnight snack. Heck, even the President and his clan agree! Pig out on Chinese favorites at this BF must-visit resto.

Juice Tip-off: Dim Sums go for PHP 88, while rice toppings, noodle soups, and congee are around PHP 150 to PHP 180. No wonder the place gets packed! Reservations are highly recommended for lunch and dinner.

FamilyMart

Let’s put it out there: FamilyMart isn’t another 7Eleven. There I said it. Yes it has the usual convenience store staples, but what zero excitement other stores offer in food choices, FamilyMart abates. And when it’s four in the morning and you’re craving for sushi with a side of unlimited soft serve ice cream, good coffee, and maybe novelty Japanese chocolates to take home, you know just where to go.

Juice Tip-off: Stock up on snacks and drinks from the FamilyMart Collection! Twirl All You Can soft serve ice cream goes for PHP 25. Don’t miss out on their dessert selections, premium coffee blends (PHP 40 to PHP 60), pork floss buns (PHP 45), green tea croissant (PHP 60), and maki rolls and onigiris (PHP 45 to PHP 110).

Uncle Moe’s Shawarma Hub

The cast of The Avengers may have only discovered shawarma recently, but the Levantine Arab dish has been a favorite Pinoy snack since the invention of Gin Pomelo. You can hardly go wrong with the flavorful meat, garlic sauce, vegetables, and pita medley, and Uncle Moe’s Shawarma Hub’s classic won’t disappoint.

Juice Tip-off: Try Uncle Moe’s All Beef Shawarma (PHP 183) for a filling end to your sloshed night. The Moussaka Melt (PHP 157), ground beef, eggplant, and tomato sauce baked in béchamel and cheese and served with pita bread, is worth trying too.

Imbiss Manila

Nothing screams ‘manly’ more than sausages (Ha! I just realized what I did there. Eww.) and beer. The deliciously gory animal innards stuffed in skins, either fried or grilled, is the reason for several rounds of alcohol, more so when sandwiched in warm and toasty buns (Wait, what?? I gotta get my head out of the gutter).

Juice Tip-off: Go for Imbiss’s Sausage Burger (PHP 255), Pork or Chicken Schnitzel (PHP 325) or the barkada-ready sausage platters (PHP 375-PHP 880). If you happen to swing by for dinner, order their bestsellers Deep Fried Pork Knuckles (PHP 525), Certified Angus Rib-eye Steak (PHP 985), and Sauerbraten (beef pot roast for PHP 395). Don’t skip dessert and sample their Sizzling Double Dark Chocolate Brownie (PHP 135) too!

Meat Depot

Meat Depot is the epicurean carnivore’s dream. Their fresh, quality meats available for wholesale or retail have been getting all the rave from foodies and restaurateurs. Their newly opened Meat Diner caters to walk-ins, who prefer to devour their medium rare, perfectly seasoned and grilled meats without delay. It's the newest steak place in the South to check out.

Juice Tip-off: Bring home their Wagyu, Angus, or homegrown beef sourced from Australia, USA, and Batangas.

ChangTeo Restaurant

This list will be pointless if it didn’t include a Korean reco. Not only is BF Paranaque the mecca for Korean food, who wouldn’t want a good Bulgogi or Kimchi Ji Gae (or risk burning crocked hands while grilling meat) for a night cap? The unassuming Chang Teo along Aguirre Ave. is one of the very few Korean restos in the area that’s open until 2am. Plus points for affordability!

Juice Tip-off: Meals average less than PHP 500 per head, and that’s for the starving. Order their meat for grilling Dae Pae Samgyupsal (PHP 120), Bo Sam (thinly sliced pork belly for PHP 350), and Gamja Tang (spicy pork bone soup for PHP 300).

Milky Moustache

I want to deliberately get buzzed and hungry just so I can down Milky Moustache’s Speculoos Crunchy Cookie Butter Shake (PHP 160) and not care about the brain freeze. What can be more comforting and reconditioning than a tall icy glass of milk and sugar? None, I tell you!!!

Juice Tip-off: Milky Moustache’s all-day breakfast menu will be a fitting end/start of the day meal before you head to snoozeville and wake up at noon tomorrow. As for the shakes, try their Nutella (PHP 150), Reese’s Peanut Butter (PHP 155), and Kitkat (PHP 145). Oooh, decisions, decisions.
