TRAVELLING PRETTY

It’s common knowledge how long haul trips and weather changes can take a toll on your skin. But with travelling being stressful as it already is, keeping up the aesthetic can be the last thing on your mind. Instead of dumping your entire beauty kit in your baggage, consider these beauty tips and essentials that are a breeze to follow and light to lug around too!

1. Get Clean

IN TRANSIT
Allot time to cleanse your oily and grimy travel-worn skin with a gentle, non-drying formula. If time is not a luxury you have in between flight connections or bus rides, keep cleansing wipes and oil blotting paper handy for an instant pick-me-up.

DESTINATION BRRR TOWN
Hot water dehydrates; go for a warm, short bath instead (while chanting, “No pain for the vain”). Bathe with oatmeal to relieve itching or milk to soften skin. Exfoliate with a glycolic acid cleanser to efface build up of dead skin cells caused by the climate. Exfoliating also permits your moisturizer to penetrate, making your skin glow naturally.

SUNTAN VACATION
You're oiling up like butter in a microwave, and are those acne flair ups on your forehead? Heat can do that to you, so apply a gentle cleanser frequently that eliminates oil and lightly moisturizes yet neither dries out nor irritates.

Pack This:

Tough on acne and blemishes yet gentle for everyday use

2. Hydrate, Moisturize, Repeat

IN TRANSIT
Air con, heat, and cabin pressure can make you look reptilian. You may find the constant wee breaks from drinking fluids a hassle, so pack a vitamin-enriched facial spray and moisturizer for that needed dewy boost. Don't forget to liberally smear lip balm and hand cream as well.

DESTINATION BRRR TOWN
Dry skin is the cold's peer, so moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! Drink enough fluids and combat the dry air and wind factor with a non-clogging and oil-based moisturizer. Utilize creams and balms (instead of lotion) on exposed skin and lips as they hold water in the skin longer.

SUNTAN VACATION
Don't wait 'til you're parched before rehydrating, and administer a light noncomedogenic moisturizer to avoid breakouts. Consider a moisturizer that contains humectants, which absorbs water from humid air.

Pack This:

The Face Shop

3. Wear Sunscreen

IN TRANSIT
Whether indoors or out, you can’t discount the importance of sunscreen. Particularly when you fly, you are more exposed to UV radiation as you get higher. Use SPF 15 for safety.

DESTINATION BRRR TOWN
The nippy climate translates to thinner ozone layer, letting you absorb more harmful UV rays. These rays are stronger in higher altitudes and bounce off snow too. Administer sunscreen with SPF 30 and apply every two hours.

SUNTAN VACATION
You’re revealing more skin in the land of the sun, so try to avoid exposure from 10am to 4pm. If you can’t, at least put on SPF 15 sunblock 30 minutes before heading out and reapply it every two hours. Make sure your sunscreen protects against UV-A and UV-B rays, no matter the season.

Pack This:
Supergoop! City Sunscreen Serum for Travel
Php1,125 / Beauty Bar
With SPF 30+, this lightweight serum protects, moisturizes, and repairs skin

4. Makeup Matters

IN TRANSIT
Evade the possibility of raccoon eyes and resist the urge to doll up when travelling. Let your skin breathe and go for a tinted moisturizer and a colored lip balm instead of foundation and long lasting lipstick. Revitalize your appearance with clear mascara, shimmer to the tops of cheeks and nose, and depuffing eye cream.

DESTINATION BRRR TOWN
Seeming pasty and flustered? Cover red patches with a hydrating powder, add some color with bronzer, and don’t amplify your naturally blushed cheeks with red hues. Cream-based makeups don’t work well in chilly weather; swap with mousse instead.

SUNTAN VACATION
Unless you’re going for a sweaty melted blob guise, keep makeup to a minimum.  Sport a dewy look with tinted moisturizer, colored lip balm, and waterproof mascara.
