BACK TO BASICS: STRAIGHTFORWARD CLOTHING

Your kitschy hipster wardrobe is pining for basic additions, particularly on those days when you can’t nail a floral on Aztec without reeling. We bank on local online shop Straightforward Clothing to dress us down with their hoodies, baseball shirts, v-necks, tailored shorts, and derbies. Bid adios to absurdly priced basics with this 100% Philippine made enterprise (we’re looking at you, GAP).

Juice tip-off: Their derbies are downright adorbs and just what you need this summer. P1,949 ladies, P1,999 gents.

BEST LOO IN THE CITY

It's the loo befitting of the Juice.ph team's prissy asses. It’s the Sinatra equivalent of tiled glory, crooning your bladder to let it go. He urges you to linger and stare at his buffed floors and breathe in his immaculate scent. He flatters your features with soft lighting and full-length mirrors. Oh, and how he coddles your tender bum with three-ply silky tissue! He’s the date you’ll obligingly consent to slither your pants off, because honey, you’re certain he won't offend.

Dying to meet the loo of your dreams? Us, too. We’ve had a few close calls but the city’s still on a shakedown. If you think you’ve located the establishment with the best washroom, validate it with our checklist and share it with us! You just might win something if you do.

CLASS UP YOUR CRIB: URBAN ABODE

Urban Abode’s 21st century country industrial je ne sais quoi is a dissection of designer Kristine Neri’sdeft mind. The furniture and lifestyle store cum café highlights local handmade art and bespoke lifestyle pieces that echo husband-and-wife-tandem Kristine and Mike’s personal styles. It certainly is an invitation to their abode.

Juice Tip-off: You can't leave Urban Abode without a little something from their collection. Burlap bins (P650), barn lights (P3,500), or Tikog ottomans (P2,300), anyone? Ordering a cup of joefrom their in-house lounge cafe is a must, too.

FESTIVAL TO TRY: WANDERLAND

Christened as the music and arts festival of 2013, even declaring it as the country’s Coachella, the anticipation swells for Wanderland2014. With the ticket price announced but the line up nowhere in sight, naysayers may deem it a sham (much like 7107… but look at how that turned out). Believers, including us, assert otherwise. If Karpos Multimedia can outpace last year’s Temper Trap, Neon Trees, and Nada Surf (among others),then we’re keeping our fingers crossed.

FLASHPACKING IN THE CITY: LOKAL HOSTEL

It may be a quarter of a star compared to your traveling comforts, but LokalHostel is worth your every thrifty centavo. Located in bustling PoblacionMakati, rooms from P1,400 to P500 come with warm communal showers, roof deck barbecue area, and more.  With the hostel literally screaming Pinoy pride, it’s an ideal way to reacquaint yourself with a home city you’ve become a stranger to.

Juice Tip-off: You're right smack in the heart of Makati and you'll soon discover that Poblacion's a mecca for wayfarers. Here's a few recos: Get wasted at Le Curieux, feel cultured at Tin-aw Art Gallery, or pig out at Pink Panda.

FUN UNDER THE SUN: FLYBOARDING

The nipper of a Tony Stark and Kelly Slater affair, flyboarding is straight out of NASA and Marvel’s ideation… except that it’s jet ski kahuna Zapata Racing that brought it to life. If shooting out of deep water eight feet high through water propulsion isn’t your kind of adrenaline rush, we don’t know what is.

Juice Tip-off: Tick flyboarding off your bucket list and head to NetworxJetsports (P4,500/20 minutes), X-tremeFun Resort (P6,000/30 minutes), orTablas Fun Resort (P7,500/1 hour) for ahydrojet surfing spin.

HAPPY HOME STUFF: BARRIO CHIC

A consortium of retro vintage design and nostalgic, often tongue in cheek, Pinoy pop culture references packaged in refined farm folk fashion with a punch of millennial wit. This is Barrio Chic. Only here will you find statements like “Nananaginip ng gising, nakatulala sa hangin” or “Tambak na ang labada Inday” printed on placemats, laundry bags, and pillows so unconformably exclusive.

Juice tip-off: The Carinderia Collection is the precise amount of Filipino flair your modern minimalist home needs. Visit their booth at Artesenia Arts & Crafts, Mercato Centrale.
